History

The formation of Gospel Fellowship Church started in the summer of 1975 when a group of believers from the Presbyterian Church USA made the decision to leave that denomination.  They began meeting on Sunday afternoons in September and October, 1975 to pray about and plan for their future.  A steering committee was formed and a decision made to seek admission into the Presbyterian Church in America.  At that time the group unanimously asked Rev. Walter Kenyon to be their organizing pastor.

The group held their first worship service on November 2, 1975 at the Richland Youth Foundation in Gibsonia, PA.  The name, Gospel Fellowship was selected based on Philippians 1:3-5.  On February 8, 1976, Gospel Fellowship Church was organized by Ascension Presbytery as a particular church in the PCA, Walter Kenyon was called as pastor, charter members were received and the original session of seven elders installed.

The Richland Youth Foundation was the site of Sunday worship services from November 2, 1975 through May 6, 1979.  Prayer meetings, Bible studies and other activities were held in the homes of church members.  On May 13, 1979, the first worship service was held at the present location.

Three men have served as Senior Pastor of Gospel Fellowship Church: Walter Kenyon, Bailey Cadman and Nick Protos.  Two men have served as Associate Pastor: Bailey Cadman and David Kenyon.  Six men have served as Assistant Pastor: Bailey Cadman, Harry George, Randall Johovich, Walter Kenyon, Arthur (Oz) Kenyon and Barry Woolner.  Walter Kenyon was elected Pastor Emeritus in 1994.

The original church structure was completed in 1979 and since then we have expanded with construction of a gymnasium and meeting rooms, through the generous and sacrificial giving of church members and friends.  The church had a recent sanctuary expansion and general renovation completed in 2003.  The property was supplied by a concerned couple who graciously and generously donated 10 acres in 1977, an additional 13 acres in 1980 and 62.5 acres in 1984.

Throughout its history Gospel Fellowship has had an ongoing youth outreach ministry, the Christian Recreation Program, reaching up to 400 young people each summer.
